Liz Yancey
Liz Yancey is a dynamic American singer/songwriter, actress, and teacher, celebrated for her powerful fusion of traditional gospel music with the uplifting, soulful rhythms of house. With a career spanning several decades, she has firmly established herself as a significant voice in inspirational and dance music.
Early in her career, Yancey pursued her deep and enduring love for gospel house music under the stage name Ja’Shay, meaning “Strength.” This period was crucial to her development as a dance music artist, marked by the release of three notable singles in 1996–1997, distributed by major labels like Strictly Rhythm and Kult Records. Her vocals are notably featured on the powerful gospel house cut “Shout Hallelujah,” released by Z Records and famously re-rubbed by Dave Lee (formerly Joey Negro).
After establishing her roots in the club scene, she transitioned to performing under her own name, continuing her spiritual and musical mission. She is known for her compelling voice and ability to deliver a faith-based message over infectious, danceable beats. Her discography includes the 2009 full-length album “Change,” which features tracks like “Praise the Lord I’m Free” and “Beautiful.” Her talent garnered early attention, leading to a nomination for Best New Female Artist at the Gospel Choice Awards in 2009.
